Some time ago I posted about the big and bold children’s book, 365 Penguins, written by Jean-Luc Fromental and illustrated by Joelle Jolivet.
Today I want to share another oversized beauty illustrated by Joelle Jolivet: Panorama. The striking black and white woodcut illustrations depict a visual journey from Ecuador to Iceland to Antarctica and beyond. There is limited text, just a poetic sentence per locale, but the real magic is in the spectacular format — heavyweight pages that can be flipped through like an ordinary book or to achieve maximum impact, unfurled and laid flat to create a seamless daytime panoramic landscape on one side, and the same landscape at night on the other.
It’s a real beauty to interact with and one can’t help but think big when embarking on the book’s journey. Enjoy!
