A 5k Like No Other
After 25 years of running 5ks, I’m proud to say I participated in one this weekend which didn’t involve wearing a watch, nor was there a time clock at the finish. I even walked half of it (gasp!) The family signed up for the Color Me Rad 5k for the pure experience of being covered in color! It was also a milestone for the family, since it was Livi’s first 5k.
Race organizers encourage you to wear white so that you start with a clean palette, which is covered in a multitude of colors by the time you cross the finish line. Some colors are sprayed on by gleeful race organizers, while others are in powder form and thrown on you by the handful. I think I know the first question you may have about this… what in the heck is this rainbow dust made out of anyway? Turns out it’s a non-toxic corn starch which they say will “change your color and your demeanor, but never your level of wellness.”
The best part actually occurs after the race, when they have a countdown to a color bomb, when everyone throws a packet of colored powder into the air! Check out the video at Color Me Rad 5k to get a good look at this! You’ll also find a complete schedule of event locations all over the US and Canada.
This is one surefire way to brighten your day!
