For the past few weeks, there’s been a mushroom extravaganza at the Clearwater Farm’s mushroom stand at the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market.
We bought a treasure trove, including…
Shiitakes in all sizes,
Maitake, also known as Hen of the Woods,
and some White Truffles.
We’re told there’s nothing like shaved White Truffles on scrambled eggs, so we decide to make a party of it and invite our neighbors over for a Sunday morning taste test. All I can say is, we’ll be back to that stand every week until truffle season has passed!
As for the other mushroom varieties… I’m still working through them. I’m experimenting under the tutelage of the beautiful cookbook, The Wild Table: Seasonal Foraged Food and Recipes. Risotto, mushroom soup, crusty bread with mushroom and goat cheese spread will all be on the menu this week. Oh yes, we do love mushrooms.
